Medina County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Feb 13.
The Medina County Sheriff's Office thoughts and prayers go out to the family of former Ohio House Speaker Batchelder, who passed away today at the age of 79. Mr. Batchelder represented Medina County in the House from 1968 through 1999. He returned to the legislature in 2007, later securing the gavel as he achieved a life-long dream of leading the House
Sheriff Grice said "Speaker Batchelder served Medina County with passion and wisdom. A truly brilliant man that fought hard to do the right thing for Medina County and the entire State of Ohio. It was a true honor to have had the opportunity to know him and spend time listening to him recall many wonderful stories. I extend my sincere condolences to the entire Batchelder family."
