The Medina County Commissioners — Stephen D. Hambley, William F. Hutson and Colleen M. Swedyk — invite the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony and an open house for the new Medina County Courthouse.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 in front of the courthouse located at 225 E. Washington St., Medina.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Patrick F. Fischer has been invited to the event as a special guest of the commissioners to speak a few words during the ceremony.

Justice Fischer began his six-year term on the Supreme Court of Ohio on Jan. 1, 2017, following his election in November 2016. Previously, he was elected to serve as a judge on the Ohio First District Court of Appeals in 2010, and was re-elected in 2012.

Immediately following the ceremony, an open house to view the first and second floors of the courthouse will commence.

The new courthouse consists of four floors and provides approximately 86,300 square feet of new space and approximately 21,000 square feet of renovated space.

Gilbane Building Company began excavation on the site in July 2021. Construction of the footers and foundation started in August 2021, and the steel structure was completed in March 2022.

“Gilbane is honored to have partnered with Medina County in the expansion and renovation of the historic 1841 Medina County Courthouse,” said Gilbane Building Company’s Vice President, Kyle Merrill. “We know how important it was to provide a modern and safe addition that complemented the existing design of the downtown square. We enjoyed working with the community to deliver just that. We’re thrilled to celebrate this exciting milestone with the official ribbon cutting of the building.”

Renovations to the 1841 Courthouse are scheduled to begin next month with completion in June 2023 creating a safer, more efficient Courthouse with ample space to serve the citizens of Medina County for many years to come.
