On Saturday, Brunswick middle and high school students from The BEAT made 200 handmade Valentine's Day cards for residents of Danbury and Plum Creek Assisted Living communities.  The BEAT students meet every Saturday morning for hands-on learning opportunities in writing news stories, conducting interviews, and editing, shooting and directing on-camera news stories.

Empathy (the ability to demonstrate awareness, sensitivity, and respect to connect with others)  and communication (sharing thoughts and ideas in a variety of forms and contexts) are cornerstones of the Journey of a Blue Devil and  competencies BCSD values and strive to develop in our students.  Programs like The BEAT provide a great platform to refine the characteristics outlined in The Journey of a Blue Devil while helping students learn and form connections with each other.

Since 2000, more than 900 Brunswick City School District students have participated in the award-winning BEAT (Brunswick Educational Access Television) program! More information about The BEAT can be found on the Brunswick City Schools website.
