A Junior from Mansfield, Ohio, Brandon Reed has always had his eyes set on Shawnee State University. Majoring in Game & Simulation Art, Reed completed his general education courses at another institution before transferring to one of the top-ranked game design universities.
“I always had my eyes set on Game & Simulation Art here at SSU so I transferred as soon as I could,” he said.
Always interested in game design, Reed's favorite part of his major is seeing the end result of a project, even though getting there can be difficult sometimes.
“Being able to see something that I have made in a rendered game setting is incredible and extremely rewarding,” he said.
Outside of the classroom, Reed loves being a part of Student Life on campus. He is the current President of the Student Government Association – the governing body for students on campus. In his role, he serves as the voice for students, and navigates any concerns or ideas the student body may want to implement on campus.
Reed is also a Resident Assistant for the Housing & Residence Life office, where he serves as a mentor for resident housing students on campus.
“It is my job to look after residents, make sure residents are able to live and explore the campus, be aware of their opportunities, and let them know the resources that are available to them,” he said. “I also organize building events for everyone to hang out, handle noise complaints, and help students who are locked out of their room.”
Within his game design major, there are several student clubs and organizations on campus that meet to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and play their favorite games. Having the opportunity to balance his academics with his involvement on campus, is something that Reed greatly enjoys.
