The Children's Center of Medina County invites everyone to attend the 6th Annual Community Pinwheel Walk to Prevent Child Abuse. This year's event will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Historic Medina Square. Participants are encouraged to wear blue, the designated color for child abuse prevention awareness.
The Pinwheel Walk is an annual event designed to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect in the community. We will gather together as a community to plant 595 Pinwheels at the Medina Library. Each Pinwheel represents a case of child abuse or neglect investigated by Medina County Job and Family Services during 2022. Pinwheels are a symbol of hope and healing, representing the positive change that can be achieved through community involvement in preventing child abuse. Over 200 community members participated in the Community Pinwheel Walk last year.
Pre-walk activities will include meeting The Children’s Center’s Canine Advocate, eating sweet treats from Huntington Bank’s Ice Cream Truck, interacting with Super Heroes from Super Heroes to Kids in Ohio, face painting by EnchantaRoo Face and Body Art, visiting with the Mounted Police Unit and more. The event will also feature a survivor sharing her experience of healing from neglect, recognition of the team of professionals that work to help children who have been abused on their pathway to healing, and proclamations marking April as Child Abuse Prevention Month from Mayor Dennis Hanwell and the Medina County Commissioners.
"We are proud to host this event each year and bring our community together in support of preventing child abuse," said The Children's Center Executive Director, Ashley Krause. "It is up to us to make a difference in the lives of children in our community, and the Pinwheel Walk is an important step towards creating a safer future for all children."
