The House Finance Committee commenced hearings on House Bill 580, legislation aimed at providing direct support to foster and kinship caregivers in Ohio. The bill, introduced by State Rep. Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) and co-sponsored by State Rep. Andrea White (R-Kettering), seeks to mitigate the financial burdens often associated with childcare.

If enacted, the bill would allow foster and kinship caregivers to receive publicly funded childcare from facilities licensed by the Department of Children and Youth while they are at work or attending educational programs.

“Foster and kinship caregivers are critical partners in ensuring every Ohio child grows up in a safe and loving home,” stated Ray during her sponsor testimony. “This legislation will allow caregivers to focus on providing for their families while ensuring their children are taken care of.”

House Bill 580 is pending further review by the House Finance Committee.
