State Representative Sharon Ray of Wadsworth has been named the Public Official of the Year by the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA). This recognition highlights her efforts in securing over $4.5 million for park and recreation projects in Medina County through the state's capital budget for fiscal years 2024-25.

"Our parks are a gift that can be enjoyed by all—a legacy for generations to come," said Ray. "I am so grateful to be selected for this award."

Woody Woodward, Executive Director of OPRA, praised Ray's understanding and advocacy for parks and recreation. "Simply, Representative Ray gets it," Woodward stated. "She understands the power of parks and recreation to improve the lives of the people in Ohio and she has been an effective advocate for parks and recreation at the Statehouse. More than that, she listens, does her homework, and approaches the legislative task seriously. We are proud that she is our Public Official of the Year."

The nomination for this accolade came from Nate Eppink, Director of Medina County Park. He emphasized Ray's active involvement with local parks and her consistent support for OPRA initiatives. “Rep. Ray has a proven record of supporting what we do as an association, from visiting local parks with her grandson and attending park events to speaking with OPRA members about critical issues and regularly funding improvements,” said Eppink. “Rep. Ray is deserving of being recognized as a friend of the profession.”
