The Ohio House of Representatives has approved House Bill 56, which seeks to designate a section of State Route 421 as the Corporal David James Amheiser Memorial Highway. This announcement was made by the bill's sponsor, State Representative Sharon Ray from Wadsworth.

Corporal David James Amheiser died at the age of 19 on August 29, 1970, during his second tour in Vietnam. He received several honors for his service, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. Other awards included the Combat Infantryman's Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

State Rep. Sharon Ray expressed gratitude to Corporal Amheiser’s nephew for sharing his story: “I’d like to thank Corporal Amheiser’s nephew, Greg Channel, for reaching out to my office and sharing the Corporal’s story with me,” said Ray. She added that she hopes "this memorial highway will keep Corporal Amheiser’s legacy alive within our community, bring comfort to his family, and honor the sacrifice he made.”

The designated highway will be located next to the Amheiser family farm in Medina County. The bill now awaits further consideration by the Ohio Senate.
