September is National Preparedness Month. This is to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. It is important to think ahead and be prepared. The theme for 2022 is “A Lasting Legacy.” Preparing for disasters will create a lasting legacy for both you and your family.
The first thing you should always do is make a plan. How will you receive emergency alerts and warnings? What are your household’s shelter plan and your evacuation route? What is your communication plan with your family or household? Does your emergency preparedness kit need updated?
The overall preparedness of individuals, families and communities is the key to successfully responding to and recovering from disasters. Review your safety plans, evacuation routes and how to communicate during emergencies. Stay safe!
