Medina City Schools issued the following announcement on Mar 28.
Medina High School Student Council members Alex Henry, Kaitlyn Pierce, and Hayden Henry attended the 69th Annual State Conference of the Ohio Association of Student Leaders (OASL) with over 50 other student leaders and advisors from throughout the State of Ohio. Medina High School Student Council advisor Laura Calaiacovo attended with her students.
Delegates and advisors gathered via Zoom for a day packed with opportunities to develop and hone leadership skills, attitudes, behaviors, and connect with peers from across the State and find inspiration to guide them on their leadership journey. Highlights of the day included keynote speaker former NFL player Shamiel Gary, panels of speakers by OASL’s outstanding alumni, breakout sessions on leadership topics, and celebrating the accomplishments of our member schools and individual student leaders. High school delegates also participated in the election of State Representatives for the 2022-23 term.
Medina High School Student Council won many awards at the conference. The Five Star Council award recognizes schools that participate in training through OASL to develop leadership. The World Changers award gives distinction for outstanding service to others.
The Ohio Association of Student Councils sponsors a recognition program for the outstanding leaders in Ohio. These are kids who go beyond what is required. These are the students who stay that extra hour, work harder, say thank you more often, lead by example, and are respected by their peers and teachers. They are outstanding leaders who deserve to be singled out for their dedication. They represent a standard of excellence that sets them apart. Their leadership and guidance have brought new direction, insight, and imagination to the Council through their years of service. They have made a difference in Medina’s Student Council. This year, Seniors Bryn Heath, Kaitlyn Pierce, Ella Spangler, Alex Henry, and junior Delaney Fogle have earned this distinction. A huge congratulations to Lexi Davis Romine for earning the OASL Ambassador Award. The award recognizes students who actively participate in OASL events throughout the school year and use their leadership skills to promote OASL and its ideals at their school.
